The reason: Good Pakistani girls, especially those that go abroad, "are ambassadors of the country and are not allowed to spread vulgarity".

The scene of contention is a kiss between Meera and co-star Ashmit Patel in the film, directed by Soni Razdan and written by Mahesh Bhatt.

"Meera's actions were against Islamic ethics and moral values," the report quoted a spokesman of the Ministry of Information as saying. If the report is to be believed, the Pakistani government is also considering banning Pakistani actors from acting in Indian films after protests over the "vulgar" scenes.

Meera, a popular actor from Lahore, is currently in India shooting for Nazar. She had earlier complained that she had received threatening phone calls from people claiming to represent religious groups in Pakistan, who protested her decision to act in Indian films.

The calls began after a still showing her in a clinch with Ashmit Patel were circulated in December.

A number of Pakistani actors have stepped up their association with Bollywood but Meera is the first actor to speak about such a problem. Several Bollywood actors have also been visiting Pakistan periodically to interact with the local film industry.
